Heather Murphy // Social Emergency Security Blankets
In an overstimulating, technology-dependent world, every day becomes a battleground for my time and attention. When I am in public, I retreat into private, using technology to create a safe barrier between myself and others. Conversely, when I am in private, I use social media to share myself with the public. In Social Emergency Security Blankets, I made plushie replicas of the objects most commonly used to isolate ourselves in public (phones, headphones, sunglasses, etc). I then used these replicas, as if they were functioning, on my daily bus commute for two weeks.
